The #1 MISTAKE eCommerce Brands Make With Email Marketing
The BIGGEST mistake I see eCommerce brands make with email marketing is the post-purchase experience.
Specifically...
They either try to offer you a "10% OFF" for many emails in a row (aka. post-purchase flow)...
Or they have a very basic thank you email with NO personalization and no strategy behind it.
Here's what I like to do instead:
1. Send a Thank You email from the founder and offer them either a small incentive or show them some products that might complement the product they already bought (soft sell)
2. Exclude them from getting broadcast emails for the next 10-14 days (Note: I'm talking about "promotional-based" emails...new buyers don't like to get bombarded by other promotions selling the same product they bought)
3. Keep them updated about the shipping status and give them the tracking number once it's shipped (with some guidelines on how to use it, if applicable)
4. Ask them for a review after 2 weeks they got the product
5. Ask them to join your SMS list and/or a private community on FB, Slack, or Discord
6. Send some edutainment emails for a few weeks before sending them some promo-based emails again
7. Tell them to share their experience on social media (with the chance of being featured)
BONUS: That's something not related to emails...but it'd be AMAZING if the customer service might call the customer and ask if they're satisfied with the product and if they can do something to improve the customer experience.
That's what a REAL post-purchase experience should look like.
